Charles R.A. Reblin (1925-2013)
M, b. 23 March 1918, d. 24 October 2013
Charles R. A. Reblin, also known as Chuck, of West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA, formerly of Graftin, passed away at the age of 95 years on Thursday, 24 October 2013. In his own words, “Chuck finally hit the deck” referring to his early boxing and wrestling days.
Chuck was raised in Granville on a truck gardening and dairy farm by Charles and Anna Reblin. He was the oldest of five siblings, dear brother of Marie (Richard) Kraeblen and Betty (Richard) Connell; dear brother in-law of Orrene Reblin. Preceded in death by sister Ann (Harvey) Livingston, brothers Albert and Reinhold. He was survived by many nieces, nephews and friends, including brothers-inlaw, Vincent Petrocelli, Alan Grady and Keith Steffen; special cousins, Bernie (Florence) Domecki, Eddie Domecki and Florence Weber; and dear friend of Jack and Cheri Downer.
Chuck was an amateur wrestling champion in the Milwaukee County Parks in 1936. In 1938, he also won three second-place finishes in Ozaukee County speed skating events. He was a boxing champion in the 1940 Land O’ Lakes Golden Gloves competition. During World War II, he served as a wrestling and drill instructor in the United States Navy in Millington, Tennessee. Charles was married twice, for almost 32 years each time, surviving Florence Petrocelli and Lila Grady Doege. During the war in 1945, he married his first wife, Florence, who was a Navy Wave. After they married, they settled in Germantown and then built a home in Grafton. With Florence, he had three children, Michael (Susan), Paul and Luann (Chuck) Boie and one granddaughter Elizabeth Reblin. In 1977, he married Lila Grady-Doege. They lived in Grafton until 1992 when they moved to a new condo in West Bend. For 60 years, Chuck enjoyed creating many scrapbooks capturing family history. He wrote countless editorials to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. He also enjoyed being active, walking and riding his exercise bike every day, up until the last few months of his life. Polka was his favorite music and a source of joy when he could no longer see due to blindness, as well as listening to Archie Bunker on “All in the Family” and Judge Judy. That could explain his sense of humor and personality. As Chuck said in his own words, “He was born to make waves, both mentally and physically, and enjoyed his entire life doing just that.”
A memorial service was held at the Mueller Funeral Home & Crematory, W63 N527 Hanover Avenue in Cedarburg on Wednesday, 30 October. Family received friends on Wednesday prior to the service. Private inurnment was on Thursday at Woodlawn Cemetery in Grafton.
