Lyle O. Schroeter

      Lyle O. Schroeter of West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA, passed away at the age of 83 years on Saturday, 03 April 2010 at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital. Lyle was born on 30 April 1926 in the town of Sherman, Sheboygan County to Alfred Schroeter and Selma Risse. He was raised in Silver Creek and graduated from Random Lake High School, class of 1944. Lyle served in World War II in the United States Army Air Corps. Lyle married Gertrude Boll on 24 May 1974 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in West Bend. He was a machinist for Weasler Engineering and then A.O. Smith Corporation from where he retired. He was an avid hunter and loved fishing, especially on the great lakes. Lyle had a drive to fix things and usually made it better. He also enjoyed polka music, dancing on Sundays to polka music and especially spending time with his family and grandchildren. Lyle was member of the NRA and St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Vilas, his sister Eileen Boblin.

A funeral service was held on Thursday, 08 April 2010 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church of West Bend where the Reverend Robert Donaldson presided. Interment followed at Washington County Memorial Park.

Reid C. Hundertmark

      Reid C. Hundertmark of Thiensville, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, USA, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 years on Friday, 12 March 2010 in St. Augustine, St. Johns County, Florida. Reid was born in Clintonville, Waupaca County, Wisconsin and graduated from Clintonville High School in 1944. He enlisted in the United States Navy that same year and served aboard the aircraft carrier Cowpens until 1947. Reid attended the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh Campus, and graduated in 1953. He taught at the high school level for 33 years, 32 of those years being at Cedarburg High School.

He was married with two children, his wife was Mary.

A memorial service in his remembrance was held at Community United Methodist Church in Cedarburg on Saturday, 10 April 2010.

Edwin J. Miller

      Edwin J. Miller of Jackson, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA, formerly of West Bend, died at the age of 93 years on Saturday, 10 April 2010 at Kathy Hospice in West Bend. He was born on 24 December 1916 in Jackson to the late Edwin G. Miller and Josephine P. Jansenr. On 14 June 1941, he was united in marriage to Lucile J. Giese in Plymouth. During World War II, he served with the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater. Following his discharge, he returned to the area and worked at Regal Ware in Kewaskum for many years. Throughout his life, he was a avid bowler. Ed bowled many 300 games and bowled the first sanctioned 300 game in West Bend.

He was survived by his wife and three children. Edwin was preceded in death by two sisters Marcella Michels and Lucille "Tudy" Eisen, three brothers Jim, Harvey and Leroy, three sisters-in-law Gladys Dickmann, Evelyn Miller and Dolores Giese and six brothers-in-law Corky Michels, Charles Palt, Harold Eisen, Wes Kuehl, Orville Klein and Fred Giese. Private services were held. Edwin was a member of the West Bend Lt. Ray Dickop American Legion Post 36.

Edward Cowell

      Edward Cowel of West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA, passed away at the age of 82 years on Saturday, 17 April 2010 at the Wisconsin Heart Hospital in Wauwatosa, Milwaukee County. He was born on 14 May 1927 in Fall River, Franklin County, Massachusetts, to the Edward Cowell and Mabel Shepherd. On 04 October 1952, Edward was united in marriage to Elaine Richardson at St. John Episcopal Church in Fall River. Edward served his country in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth. Edward and Elaine lived in Grafton for 16 years before moving to Dalton, Madison County, Georgia, where they lived for a short time. They then moved to Venice, Sarasota County, Florida, where they lived for 22 years before making Cedar Ridge in West Bend their home in 2004.

Edward retired as vice president of Needle Craft Corp of America. He was a member of the West Bend Fred A. Schafer VFW Post No. 1398 and the Lt. Ray Dickop American Legion Post No. 36 and a former member of the Elks and Masonic Lodge. Edward was married to Elaine with three children. Per Edward’s request, there was be no formal funeral service. Cremation took place at Myrhum-Patten Funeral and Cremation Service and inurnment in his family’s plot in Oak Grove Cemetery in Fall River.

Harold V. Fuchs

      Harold V. Fuchs of West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA died at the age of 92 years on Tuesday, 20 April 2010 in Hartford at the Aurora Medical Center Washington County. He was born 26 November 1917 in Waukesha, Waukesha County to the late August Fuchs and Martha Mueller. He married Mary E. McCollow on 08 June 8 1943 at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Neosho, Dodge County. Mary preceded him in death on 01 October 1997.

Harold was raised in Waukesha and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Campus. He served in the United States Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. Following his discharge, Harold and Mary settled in West Bend where he began his employment with West Bend Mutual Insurance Company. He retired as president of West Bend Mutual in 1982. Harold was very influential in bringing blood drives to West Bend and eventually the West Bend Blood Bank. He and Mary were founding members of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. Harold was a longtime member of the West Bend Kiwanis Club.

He was the father of four children. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, August and Martha Fuchs; his wife of 54 years, Mary; two brothers and four sisters.

A Mass of Christian burial was held Friday, 23 April 2010, at Holy Angels Catholic Church in West Bend. The Reverend Gerald Brittain presided. Burial took place in St. Bartholomew Cemetery, Neosho.

Daniel A. Anderson

      Daniel A. Anderson of West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA passed away at his residence at the age of 76 years on Saturday, 24 April 2010. He was born on 12 May 1933 in Ashland, Ashland County, son of Albert Anderson and Mary McDonald. Daniel served his country in the United States Army. In January of 1961, he was united in marriage to Sharon Stadler in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County. Daniel worked for the Steam Fitter’s Union in Milwaukee and was a member of the Steam Fitter’s Union, Local No. 601, retiring in 1994. He was survived by his wife, Sharon, and four children.

In honor of Daniel’s wishes, no public service was held. Cremation took place at Myrhum-Patten Funeral and Cremation Service. Inurnment took place at St. Agnes Church Cemetery in Ashland.

Interment will be at St. Francis Borgia Cemetery with military honors. Memorials to the Cedarburg American Legion 40&8 for their Nursing Scholarship Funds in honor of RoseMarie Frank.

RoseMarie grew up in Webster, Day County, South Dakota and was graduated from high school there in May of 1952 and within a month was a nursing student at St. John’s School of Nursing in Huron, Beadle County. She graduated in 1955 and continued to be a registered nurse for the next 55 years. She devoted her life to her career and family. Mom met dad, Tom, in May 1962 on a blind date and they were married in December. Mom spent two years in the United States Air Force Reserve as a captain, however she was honorably discharged due to starting a family. Mom’s enjoyments in life were spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren, traveling and dancing the polka with her husband. She also enjoyed gathering garden flowers, which she often shared with others, and showing kindness to many in only a way that “Rose” could do.

RoseMarie was survived by her husband of 47 years, Thomas E. Frank. She was the mother of five children. RoseMarie was preceded in death by her sister, Dolores K. Pesall, and beloved brothers, Jerome, Raymond and Edmund Pesall.

Pierre Braun

      Pierre Braun of Grafton, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, USA, died on 29 April 2010. Pierre was born in Budapest on 09 August 1928. He was the husband of Kathleen Z. Zajicek and the father of three children. He arrived in the United States from France in 1947 and was a proud member of the United States Marines during WW II, from 1951 to 1953. Pierre worked for General Steamship Company and the American Appraisal Company. He was an avid photographer and member of the Photo Pictorialists of Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, the Photographic Society of America (PSA), and a founding member of the Wisconsin PSA Chapter. He also did photography for the News Graphic in Ozaukee County and North Shore Lifestyle magazine.

A memorial service celebrating Pierre's life was held at Fox Point Lutheran Church, 7510 North Santa Monica Boulevard on Saturday, 08 May. Pierre's body was donated to the Medical College of Wisconsin. He was a member of the Cedarburg Peter Willner American Legion Post 288.

Val Quandt

      Val Quandt who practiced family medicine in Hartford, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA for four decades, died at the age of 88 years on Monday, March 29, 2010 at the Hartford Healthcare Cente after a long illness. He was born Valerius Victor Quandt on 13 May 1921 in Watertown, Jefferson County. He was known to his friends and family as Val, and in his later years, simply "Doc." He was the son of Erwin Quandt, a Watertown Lutheran minister, and his wife, Meta.

Dr. Quandt graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s undergraduate college in 1942 and medical school in 1945. He served in the United States Army as a doctor and captain after World War II before coming to Hartford to set a family medical practice in 1948, where he practiced until he retired in 1986. During this time he also served terms as the city health examiner and a certified Federal Aviation Administration examiner. As a medical practitioner, Dr. Quandt was an early advocate of many now-accepted medical trends, particularly the need for weight control, eliminating smoking, limiting alcohol consumption and regular strenuous exercise before they became fashionable. He was quoted as saying, "It’s very easy for a patient to take medicine, but what really needs to do change is the patient’s lifestyle." After retiring, he volunteered at the Hartford Heritage Auto Museum where he served as head archivist and docent for 15 years. While there he wrote a book on Hartford’s Kissel car, "The Classic Kissel Automobile" in 1990. In 1998, he was the editor of the book "Wisconsin Cars and Trucks: A Centenary."

Dr. Quandt married Faith Hurtig in 1946. They had three children and were married until her death in 2007. He was preceded in death by his brother, Dr. Courtney Quandt; and his grandchild, Lauren Quandt.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, May 8, at Berndt-Ledesma Funeral Home in Hartford.

Wallace W. Hoffmann

      Wallace W. Hoffmann of Reinbeck, Grundy County, Iowa, USA, formerly of Cedarburg, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, died at the age of 93 years on 28 April 28 2010 at Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Reinbeck. Wallace was born 28 September 1916, the son of F. August Hoffmann and Emma Klotz. He graduated from Cedarburg High School. Wallace married Eleanor Wiegert on 17 August 1946. Eleanor preceded him in death in April 2009. Wallace served in the 511th Parachute Infantry from 1941 to 1945, serving in the Pacific Theater. He served the city of Cedarburg for 28 years as a patrolman and later police chief. He later worked as a Security Supervisor at St. Michael’s Hospital.

Wallace was a lifetime member of the Wisconsin Police Chief Association and a member of the Reinbeck American Legion Post 242.
He was survived by three children. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his brother, LeRoy, and his sister, Roma Allen.

Visitation was at Faith Lutheran Church, N35 W6621 Wilson Street, Cedarburg on Friday, 14 May until the time of the service. Interment followed on Saturday at Immanuel Cemetery in Cedarburg wiith full military honors.

      John A. Biersack of West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA, died at the age of 82 years on Wednesday, 12 May 2010 at his residence. He was born 30 November 1927 in Barton to the late John Biersack and Anna Neuy. He married Jean Wolf on 09 June 1951 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in West Bend. Jean preceded him in death on 25 April 1989. John served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his discharge, he was employed by the West Bend Transit. He enjoyed helping neighbors as a handyman and, in his spare time, he liked to relax with his pipe and go fishing. John was a member of the West Bend Lodge No. 1398 Loyal Order of the Moose and volunteered for Meals on Wheels.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna Biersack; his wife, Jean; four brothers, Victor (Elvira), Jerome (Minerva), Leonard and Robert; and three sisters, Ernestine (Ed) Knoeck, Delores (Ed) Gundrum and Leona (Joe) Langenecker.

A Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, 17 May 2010, at Holy Angels Catholic Church. Reverend Nathan Reesman presided. Burial was on Tuesday at Holy Angels Cemetery.

Joseph H. LaPiene

      Joseph H. LaPiene of West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA, formerly of Cedarburg, Ozaukee County and Two Rivers, Manitowoc County passed away at the age of 80 years on 14 May 2010 at Kathy Hospice in the town of Polk with his family by his side on Frida . Joseph was born on 15 October 1929, to John LaPiene and Esther Slavinski in New Haven, New Haven County, Connecticut. He attended school in Meriden, and graduated from Meriden High School in 1947. One year later, he graduated from the Horace Wilcox Technical School in Meriden. Following his graduation, Joseph enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country aboard the USS Elokomin as a machinist mate. While Joe was in the service he met his life, Lila Goeman. They were married on 12 October 1952 at St. John Evangelical. Lutheran Church in Two Rivers. While in Two Rivers, they became the proud parents of three daughters.

Joseph worked in Two Rivers as a tool and die maker for several years, however his lifelong passion for learning eventually led him to go back to school. He attended the Acme Institute of Technology as well as the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Following school, he began working for Mercury Marine in Cedarburg. In 1964, Joseph moved his young family to Cedarburg. Iin 1968 he started Mold Design Specialties, which he owned and operated for 26 years. Joseph retired in 1994 and together he and his wife, Lila, moved to West Bend and became members of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Throughout his life, he was a member of various clubs related to his interests in astronomy, history and photography. He enjoyed gardening as well as dancing, and had a real appreciation for art, music and science.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Lila, and three daughters. He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Esther (Henry) Slavinski, and his father and step mother, John (Ann) LaPiene.

A memorial service in honor of Joseph was held 18 May 2010 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church at 809 South 6th Street, West Bend. The Reverend Jeff Dorth officiated.

Kenneth W. Ried

Services were held at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Cedarburg with interment at Calvary Cemetery, Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois. He spent his boyhood in Springfield attending St. Joseph Grade School and Cathedral Boys’ High School, as well as Springfield Junior College, St. Louis University and Northwestern University. In his professional career, he was a computer manager for IBM. More recently, Mr. Reid was a golf pro manager at Mee-Kwon Park Golf Course in Mequon, Ozaulee County.

A veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Reid was a member of the Cedarburg Peter Wollver American Legion Post 288. He also served as Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. He donated countless hours to community service.

He was the husband of Marianne Trello and the father seven.

Paul W. Bast

      Paul W. Bast of West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA, passed away at the age of 85 years on Wednesday, 12 April 2000. He was born on 05 December 1914 on the Bast Family Centennial Farm near Rockfield, town of Germantown, and was preceded in death by his parents, Paul J. and Bertha (nee Mantz) Bast. Paul was married on 26 October 1940 to Agnes L. Hoelz. They celebrated 59 years together. He was the father of four children. Preceding him in death were three brothers-in-law, Clarence Hoelz, Frederick Huebner and Stanley Stokes.

Paul graduated in 1932 from West Bend High School and from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1937. Upon graduation he was employed by the First National Bank of West Bend, where he served West Bend and Washington County for 43 years. At the time of his retirement on Dec. 31, 1979, he was president of the bank. His career was interrupted in 1943 when he enlisted in the United States Navy. Upon graduation from Navy Supply Corps School at Harvard University, he received his orders to the destroyer, USS Schroeder, DD501. He served as the ships's supply officer until the end of the war achieving the rank of Lieutenant JG.

Very active in his community, Paul was a member of Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church, the West Bend Country Club, the West Bend Noon Rotary Club and served numerous other organizations in West Bend and Washington County. Funeral services were held on Sunday, 16 April at Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church, West Bend, where Reverend William Dushek officiated.

He belonged to the Hartford Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8834. Jim was a loving husband and the father of two children. Preceding him in death were several brothers and a sister.

Bernard was born on 02 October 1937 in Horicon, Dodge County to Lester Ermer and Myra Hoepner. On 25 June 1960, he married Phyllis Kurth at David Star Lutheran Church in Jackson, Washington County. Mr. Ermer served his country in the United States Army, and was employed by Regal Ware Inc. in Kewaskum for 36 years, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Regal Ware 25-Year Club and St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kewaskum.

Preceding him in death were his father, Lester; his father-in-law, Wilbert Kurth; and a brother-in-law, Marvin Kurth. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, 26 April at St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kewaskum. Reverend. Edwin Fredrich officiated. Burial followed in Lutheran Memorial Park, Kewaskum.

Jamie W. Presley

He was born on 16 August 1922 in Caroll County, Tennessee to Frank J. Presley and Mamie M. Moore. Jamie grew up in Caroll County, graduating from McLemoresville High School. In 1942 he entered the United States Army and served in World War II. Jamie married Joy J. Schneider on 15 June 1946 after moving to the West Bend area. He was employed by Wisconsin Electric Power Company. At the time of his retirement, following 37 years of employment, he was a line crew foreman in overhead construction.

Having a farm background, he maintained a lifetime interest in fine horses, especially Tennessee Walkng horses. He raised some exceptional ones, including his favorite, Presley's Tom Frost. Jamie was a long-time member and past Master of the West Bend Lodge #138 F. & A. M., West Bend Lt. Ray Dickop American Legion Post 36, EMBA, and the Immanuel United Church of Christ since 1947.

He was survived by his wife of 53 years and their four children. Jamie was preceded in death by one grandson, Joey Presley, and one brother, Leon. Funeral services were held on Monday, 24 April at Immanuel United Church of Christ where Reverend James Eckblad officiated. Burial followed on Tuesday at the Washington County Memorial Park in West Bend.

Francis W. Doyle

      A memorial service was held Monday, 21 April 2000 for Francis W. Doyle who died at the age of 89 years five days earlier on 16 April at his home in Cedarburg, Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, USA. Visitation was at Trinity Lutheran Church followed by a service led by Reverend Charles Turbin. Mr. Doyle was born 01 June 1910 in Washington, D.C., son of William and Lila Mae Edmonston. He married Ellen Anderle on 27 August 1965. Mr. Doyle was a lieutenant colonel in the Army during World War II, after serving in the ROTC at Purdue University. An engineer by trade, he worked for Waukesha Motors and Perfex Corp. After retiring, he worked for more than 20 years for Doig Manufacturing.

A mason, Mr. Doyle attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedarburg. Hee was survived by his wife, two children and two stepsons.

William D. Barnes

      William D. Barnes, Sr. of Alamo, Hidalgo County, Texas, USA, and West Bend, Washington Couny, Wisconsin passed away at the age of 77 years on Tuesday, 11 April 2000 at McAllen Medical Center, McAllen, Hidalgo, Texas. Williaim was born on 19 December 1922, in Wautoma,Waushara County, Wisconsiun to the late Horace Barnes and Dora Eichman. William attended Milwaukee, Milwaukee County area schools and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, served four years in the United States Marine Corps, and was a veteran of World War II. On 12 April 1946, he married Jane G. Schallhorn.

Bill was self-employed as a plasterer for many years and later at the American Can Co. until retiring in 1987. Survivors include his wife, Jane, and 13 children. Preceding him in death were a brother, John, and sisters, Doris Hughes, Betty Griswold and Helen Darling. A Memorial Mass was held on Friday, 28 April at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Church in West Bend.

Wayne P. Brose

      Wayne P. Brose of Hartford, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA, passed away at the age of 54 years on Saturday, 29 April 2000 at the Hartford Care Center.
He was born on 30 July 1945 in Berlin, Green Lake County to Alfred Brose and Lucille Malson. Wayne married Diane Bever on 10 October 1970 at St. John Catholic Church in Rubicon, Dodge County. He was a member of the Hartford Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8834. He was employed at several local companies including W.B. Place, Slinger Mnanfacturing and later, Vulcan Manafacturing. Wayne loved baseball, golfing, bowling and woodworking.

He was survived by his wife and two daughters. He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred; his father-in-law, Leonard Bever and his step-father, Clarence Schwalbe. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, 03 May at St. Kilian Catholic Church in Hartford where Father Mark Develis officiated. Interment was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Glenn W. Muenster

      Glenn W. Muenster, 68, of West Bend, Washington County, Wisconsin, USA died at the age of 68 years on Friday, 05 May 2000 at St. Luke Medical Center in Milwaukee. Glenn was born on 17 November 1931 to Clarence Muenster and Laura Feiste in Appleton, Outagamie County. He married Donna M. Carney on 26 October 1961 in Freedom. Glenn served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict as a helicopter pilot stationed in Haiti. He retired after 28 years at Texaco Oil Company and was currently employed as a consultant for Condon Oil Co. of Ripon. Glenn was survived by his wife and three children. Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother-in-law, Ves Gonnering.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, 10 May at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in West Bend. Father Jeffrey Haines officiated. Interment took place at Washington County Memorial Park on Thursday, 11 May.

John F. McCormick

He married Alice Grunwald on 09 January 1943 at Ephrada Evangelical Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. Mr. McCormick served in the United States Army. He worked as a plasterer for over 40 years, belonged to the former Local Union #138 and served 15 years in the repair division in the Milwaukee Public School System. He was also a member of the Red Arrow Club. Survivors include his wife and six sons. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Earl.
